On January 18, 2013, the morning after the memorial day for the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake in Japan, a "qi-storm" (locals call sea fog "Ke-Arashi") was occurring in Shizugawa Bay in Minamisanriku, Miyagi Prefecture, the hardest hit area in Tohoku during the March 11, 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

The scene reminded me of the many many souls of the victims of past disasters who are being elevated to heaven and carry to the sun through the prayers of all the people.

And I vowed to reward them, and the God of photography.

2013年1月18日、1995年の日本における阪神大震災の慰霊日の翌朝のことだ。

2011年3月11日の東日本大震災において、東北でもっとも被害の大きかった宮城県南三陸町の志津川湾に「気嵐」が発生していた（現地では海霧を「気嵐」と呼称する）。

私にはなんだか、その光景がすべての人々の慰霊の祈りによって天国へと、太陽のもとへと昇華されていく過去の災害犠牲者の魂のように思われたのである。

そして、私は彼ら、そして写真の神様に報いることを誓った。
